M/5, 22nd April 1926. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Fowler Clark Esq., Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Fowler Clark, In reply to yours of the 16th inst. with regard to the question of separation, I cannot shake our Works opinion (which is unanimous) as to their wish to revert to .4 m/m ebonite instead of even .5 m/m, and when they are so unanimous as this I cannot press them any further. They point out that our .4 m/m will even then be thicker than those used in the Exide batteries and they say that the extra volume of acid and the lower internal resistance that this gives is of more importance than the mechanical strength consideration. We are therefore proposing to go back to .4 m/m shortly. As I told you, I am having a special battery made for my car with certain experimental features in it (which will all tend to lengthen the life of the plates) and some of these cells are having .6 m/m and some .4 m/m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} As I said before, if the .6 m/m show themselves superior when the battery is opened up when it is finished I shall have more to say about the subject then. With regard to carrying the ebonites above and below the plates, we are all very keen on the question of carrying them below and I see you agree with this, but as our Works are not particularly keen to carry them 1/4" above the plates we shall carry them 1/8" only to fall in line with your request. This also will be done when we go back to the .4 m/m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} | ||
