Herewith we send N.sch.3440 shewing the suggested shield over the swan neck to prevent the cushion coming in contact with the hot pipe. As the position of the swan neck is not very definite and moves with expansion to some extent we have thought it desirable to cover it still with asbestos string, so that should it contact with the guard due to any discrepancies the asbestos would still ensure heat insulation. We have looked at various other ways of doing this, including building up with two strips and a channel, but considering the shape of the cushion and the way in which it may make contact with this piece, the pressing as shewn appears to us to be the most desirable.
