Failure of 2.BA Grover spring washers and seeking comments on potential solutions.

X.3457 - RE. FAILURE OF 2.BA SPRING WASHERS. X.3238.

The present 2.BA Grover Washers are not very satis-factory in-as-much as we have had several cases of them breaking while screwing up or unscrewing the nut.

We have also recently received a complaint from America that a broken spring washer was found in the rear axle, which caused trouble and which has necessitated the complete dis-mantling and re-erecting of the axle.

We consider in this case the washer is one which has come adrift from the locking device for the position of the bevel wheel, which we are asking America to confirm.

I should be glad if this matter can be gone into and an improved washer used for this job, or on important parts such as above referred to. Thackary washer or no spring washer at all should he used.

In view of the fact that on all the axles before delivery the stud for this locking device is rivetted over, could not the spring washer be avoided entirely?

Please let me have your comments on the above as we should like to take action immediately, as we are rather concerned at the above mentioned failure and do not wish to have any recurrence.
