W/P - Sr: 84013 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}17/KW.8.6.34. Dear Sr., Referring to your note of the 5th, the Continental Phantom will lap Brooklands at approximately 85 to 86 M.P.H. with the cut-out open. With the cut-out closed it will not exceed 80 m.p.h. by more than about 2 m.p.h. The reason for this is that we have recently silenced down the exhaust quite a lot and now the silencer absorbs a lot of power with the cut-out closed. The cut-out is not fitted to the standard Phantom, which in consequence is some 4 m.p.h. slower than the Continental car. As a matter of interest we give you a few Brooklands figures :- 20-MY. Semi-expanding Carburetter. C.O. open. 85.72 m.p.h. closed 81.9 Flying half mile - 90 m.p.h. 46-MY. Pre Semi-expanding Carburetter. Lap speed, C.O. closed 75 m.p.h. " " open 81.5 58-GN. Semi-Expanding Carburetter. Lap Speed, C.O. open - 87 m.p.h. Half mile - 90 m.p.h. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
