(2) Output at 13.0 volts.

With the dynamo delivering current to the battery and the regulator still cold the dynamo shall be again gradually speeded up, the voltage being maintained at 13.0 by adjustment of the xx variable resistance. The current at 13.0 volts required to commence operation should be noted, after which the speed should be varied up to 5,000 R.P.M. the output at 13.0 volts still being observed. This shouldlie between 14.0 and 16.5 amperes.

(3) Output at 15.0 volts.

Test 2 shall now be repeated but with the terminal volts adjusted to 15.0. In this case the output should lie between 1.0 and 7.5 amperes.

(4) In order to heat up the regulator, the dynamo shall now be run at a speed of about 2,500 R.P.M. delivering current at 13.0 volts, for a period of 2 hours. At the end of this run tests 1, 2, & 3 should be repeated, the corresponding values being :-

(1) O.C. volts 15.5 to 16.5. volts.
(2) Output at 13.0 volts. 15.0 to 18.5 amperes.
(3) Output at 15.0 volts 3.5 to 10.5 amperes.

NOTE. The standard chassis ammeter specified above, is for the purpose of measuring the effect of regulator operation, on the ammeter indications. The regulator causes the ammeter needle to oscillate more or less. The chassis instrument should be kept under observation and the amplitude of the swing of the needle estimated, as far as possible, at the various speeds.
