Motor Panels (Coventry) Ltd.. Coventry.

We have heard both from Motor Panels Ltd. and from Mr. Green, that certain of the Bentley-V tools, jigs and templates have been collected from the former's Works at Coventry.

Although all or some of these bear labels to the effect they are the property of Rolls-Royce Ltd., we want to point out that in effect they are not entirely so, because they have not been paid for in full.

The position is that Motor Panels account against Park Ward & Co., who, of course, ordered the jigs, etc., totals approximately £6,400., against which they have been paid £5,500., leaving outstanding an amount of about £900.

This amount was left outstanding because the jigs require modification to eliminate the defects disclosed by the production of the six sample sets of body parts.

Because of the pressure of war work Motor Panels found themselves unable to complete the modifications at the time of their discovery, nor have they been able to finish them since.

The amount of £5,500. was paid to Motor Panels by Park Ward & Co., but R-R.{Sir Henry Royce} of course, provided the money.

It should be added that Motor Panels Ltd. expect that the jigs and tools will not be used for the production of parts by anyone other than themselves, in view of the fact that they are not fully paid for, and also because the contract between them and P.W. & Co. covered not only the production of the jigs, etc., but also the production of a quantity of sets of parts from the same jigs, and they still consider they are entitled to the benefit of this Contract.

Doubtless, however, it would be possible, if desired at some future date, to come to some arrangement with Motor Panels for the cancellation of the order for the parts and the withdrawal of any objection to the use of the jigs by someone other than themselves.

For the records of both Park Ward & Co. and ourselves, we should like to have a list, please, of all the jigs, tools, etc., taken away from Motor Panels.
