Examination report on faulty ignition coils returned from customers, detailing the cause of a short circuit.

E.7.C. X8710 Date 18-2-30 Ref NO. W.E.7 X.NO. 8710 Faulty ignition coils from customer's We have received for examination four ignition coils taken from a batch of sixteen received from Cricklewood. Two of these coils NO. M-2-S ex chassis GXO-61 and NO. XH-75 ex chassis 43KR were found to be OK. The other two were found to have a short circuit on the secondary windings and were accordingly unwound, the following being a report of our findings:- Coil NO. OP85 ex chassis 7WR (Phantom II) The short circuit was found to have occurred between the 1st and 2nd layers of the secondary at the end of that latter and immediately over a portion of the 10/40 flex used to connect primary to secondary which we found had been wound too far along the coil, overlapping the secondary space.
