from the Smith dynamos which are, however, about 2 lbs. heavier.

If Messrs. Lucas would have allowed a little more weight on the machine, we think they might have obtained the performance we require.

We shall be interested to know if you consider the performance of the C.575 machine to meet our requirements better than our present standard, as we ourselves would hesitate to express such an opinion.

One would have expected that a similar performance could have been obtained by merely altering the winding of the E.575 machine.

The sample Lucas C.575 dynamo received is quite as noisy, if not a little more so, than the average present standard E.575. We have demonstrated this to Mr. Breeden of the Lucas Co., and he has asked for the machine to be returned for rectification in this respect. The machine is noisy throughout its entire range of speed, the noise being half electrical and half mechanical. There appears to be a mechanical fault in the commutator end so that the bearing is thrown somewhat out of line if the position of the control brush be altered. The insulation of the brush holders is mica which is an improvement in this respect on the E.575, the insulation of which we have proved is liable to shrink and cause trouble.
