EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}2/5.11.29. cont. the Butler lamp is quite good, one can imagine a better. The plating is a bad colour. We suggest that HDY.{William Hardy} might approach Messrs Lucas and try one of their new small headlamps for such cars as the Austin and Morris Minor. It is a good looking lamp, and about the right size. BONNET FASTENERS. The heads of the new fasteners do not seem to be sufficiently well tightened by Works, they come undone. We are looking into this. PETROL TANK. We agree that the fitting for the KS. Petrol Gauge as put on by Works and not previously seen by ourselves is ugly. We are looking into this and the general idea of cleaning up the back of the car. LUGGAGE CARRIERS. We did not think that the R-R rear wheel and luggage grid was at all unsightly, although it might be improved in detail. As the writer predicted one saw a large number of cars with no wheels at the rear. An alternative scheme of two wheels or luggage would have a more universal appeal. A special effort was made to examine similar fittings on other cars, but no other chassis manufacturer seemed to have got as far with the problem as we have. In a large number of cases the fitting was supplied by the coachbuilder, and each case treated on its merits. We have solved the problem for the short body quite well, but we have yet to solve it for the maximum body. SUBFRAME HEELBOARDS. MR. Munday says that he has two different types of heelboard on the subframe, the one has the greater clearance for the rear universal joint than the other. We would be glad if Sales would ask JG. to verify this, Barkers want to know whether they are safe in fitting the one with the small clearance. TOOL BOXES. Messrs Barkers say that Sales do not like the R-R design of toolbox as fitted to Phantom II. We have not heard their criticisms. We agree that one of the nickel strips could be avoided thus and that the holding down screw and the lifting ring could be on the same centre. Barkers agree that they are a very effective design of box, and this is born out by our tests. BONNET, RADIATOR AND DASH. The need for a revised bonnet with a raised side hinge was apparent on all of our cars and both models | ||
