Y1282 To Ey. From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Yng. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Yng.9/MJ.17.5.33. AERO ENGINE FUEL. Replying to your memo ref: By/EM.7/J.28.4.33. on the subject of an Air Ministry Specification for a fuel having an octane rating of 80. The view we take of this matter is that 80 Octane fuels are already obsolescent and that consequently the specification should cover fuels up to the maximum Octane fuel at present under consideration i.e.87. The remaining criticism which we have of the schedule is at the freezing point condition of minus 50°C. limits the Benzol content to approx. 12%. This is very undesirable from our point of view as we have built up a considerable experience on fuels of various octane ratings, formed by the addition of TEL. to D.T.D.134, this fuel containing about 25% Benzol. From test bed experience we cannot foresee any gain which is likely to accrue from the lower freezing point. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/H.R.Young. | ||
