To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to CJ. c. to RG.{Mr Rowledge} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X. 9940 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/4M7.12.23. 40/50 FRONT WHEEL BRAKE SHOES. X.9940 We send herewith N.sch.1713 shewing a further experiment with split shoes. In this case we use a floating fulcrum the details of which have been somewhat modified from those shewn in N.sch. 1498. in order to make them lighter, and the lever is increased to 6" to provide a greater pull which seems to have been found necessary with floating fulcrums. It will not be possible to use the existing brake carrier. Mr. Royce is of the opinion that this system of shoes will quite probably be the one finally adopted, and therefore we should like you to push on it on at the same time as you do the fixed fulcrum schemes sent you yesterday.
