To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Cricklewood, Oct.28th, 1936. PHANTOM III. Complaint of faulty design or workmanship with regard to the oil level indicator. There has been a complaint of an oil indicator sticking. Upon investigating the cause, we find, without exception, that under certain circumstances all of them can stick or bind. The fault lies in the fulcrum pin location for the ball float lever. The connection to the rod working the needle is not held central with the bore in the casting due to, too much end play of the ball lever or the fulcrum pin, also not centralised. In some cases it fouls when close to the casting, and the other extreme when it has moved to the extreme end of the pin. It requires centralising and less movement. All new units being sent from the Works are faulty - sketch enclosed shows the fault. G.W. Hancock. | ||
