EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT.

Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Ed.{J. L. Edwards}11/JH.

15th. August, 1939.

Messrs. S.Smith & Sons Ltd.,
Cricklewood Works,
LONDON.N.W.2.

For the attention of Mr. Grose.

Dear Sirs,

Further to your telephone message of yesterday, the writer very much regrets that owing to a prior engagement on Thursday he will not be able to get down to London.

In view of this unfortunate clashing of dates, therefore, it might be convenient for Mr. Grose to pay the writer a visit either on Friday, or sometime next week when the whole matter could be thoroughly discussed.

We are at present engaged on work on pressure cooling, and it is for this that we desired the thermostats. A third instrument would also be useful, arranged to give a running temperature of 95°C.

For this job, we wish to use a vent and relief valve, designed to leave the system open to atmosphere up ro{C. C. Rose - Export Manager} about 95 - 98°C, when the valve closes giving a sealed cooling system. This persists up to a pressure of 15 lbs.sq.in. when the relief valve operates and the valve blows off.

We suggest a simple combined unit, thermostatically operated for the temperature side, and if possible avoiding rubber seatings. The cost to be in the region of 10/-.

If you have any units of this description we should be very interested to discuss them with Mr. Grose if he visits us.

Yours faithfully,
FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
