Dear Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer},

With reference to the fuels you were asking me about when you were on your tour on the Continent. I can give you some information as to the Esso and Azur spirits.

Esso has an Octane number of about 79 when tested under low temperature conditions, i.e. 100°C and 600 r.p.m. This is equivalent to the old Ethyl standard in this country. Azur runs up to 83/84 Octane and is what we know as a "ternary" blend, i.e. contains about 70% petrol, 15% dehydrated Ethyl Alcohol, 15% benzol.

I am obtaining the details of Dynamin and will forward these on as soon as they come to hand.

Esso is marketed on the Continent by a branch company of the Standard Oil of New Jersey, L'Economique. Azur is marketed by Desmarais Freres.

If there is any further information you require, please let me know and I should be much obliged if you would keep the foregoing strictly to yourself.

Kindest regards,

Yours sincerely,
Rod Banks.
