We have received your memos of the 12th & 13th December.

Re 25 HP. Carburettor.

We thoroughly cleaned the carburettor on the Paris car, having found the slow running jet choked up with fluff. We got no change out of it however. We will check the result of oil on our own carburettor piston.

Crackling in Silencer.

Our silencer crackled for approximately the first two days; afterwards we have not heard it and did not take any notice of it, knowing that it was a new silencer. The crackling generally disappeared within a few days.

Re support of silencer

We have not had the trouble you mention, i.e.- nut coming off. Our present suspension is of course, the spherical type. The trouble we have had with this is dry noise of the bearing, which had to be oiled. The stay from the gear box to the intermediate pipe has fallen off the pipe. They are reported in the 10,000 miles report which we hope to send you tomorrow. Your note re connecting has delayed us half a day. We had unfortunately just built the engine up after an examination. We have however pulled it down again, and stepped up the holes in the connecting rods.

Re torque reaction dampers.

We have reported that these cannot be obtained here, our friction pad is Ferodo, not rubber. We will endeavour to borrow the torque dampers if possible.

Re the 10,000 miles.

We have of course, been running 21 G 17 full mileage, whilst the Cadillac has been held up and it was completed within 500 miles when we received the Cadillac. We cannot therefore complete the two mileages together, and so far as comparing the two bodies together, well, its not a fair comparison, as 21 G 17 body was not in a good condition to start with. We have not however, finished the mileage as arranged. 21 G 17 has another 10,000 miles to do using W. oil. The Cadillac had to do 15,000 miles. We have a further 7,500 miles to do.

Re the bridges.

The Cadillac is not too good on bumps, but we will give you the speed etc, later, as we have not made a special note of it. We are enclosing photos of the bearings taken yesterday.
