6003 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std,7/MH.{M. Huckerby} 7th. February 1938. Messrs. S.Smith & Sons Ltd., Cricklewood Works, London, N.W.2. For the attention of Mr.Dorer. Dear Sirs, We are operating one of our cars with your thermometer (DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}1360) and your thermostat (X.30065) fitted and find that a fairly low frequency oscillation of the indicating finger takes place, indicating a temperature fluctuation of approximately 4° - 5°C. We attribute this to the thermostats action and see no way of preventing this temperature fluctuation. We should, however, like to make the thermometer more 'dead-beat' in order to prevent this feature being so noticeable. We may mention that a Negrettiand Zambra thermometer (mercury in steel type) fitted with its bulb in the same position gives a steady constant reading. Will you please let us know whether you can introduce this feature on our thermometer to DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}1360 and what this will involve. We should like to hear from you as soon as possible on this subject. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
