one at each end, against which the sockets have been fixed. This appearance, however, may be quite deceptive, but in any case the construction shewn on Lec.1077 should be followed, with perhaps a slight reduction in dimension so as to reduce the weight, plus the alteration of shortening the sockets, and altering the material to bronze.

(14) The grease way to the bottom ball should be altered by cancelling the grease holes in the top ball, and the grease holes in the ball socket piece intermediate between the balls. So that the grease may still, however, be forced to the bottom ball, grooves should be provided on the outside surfaces of the intermediate ball sockets, one groove at each end on the side of the socket remote from the nick for the ball stem.
