It is interesting to remember, that the design of cylinder head evolved by Mr. Alex Taub of Vauxhall Motors in conjunction with a special piston crown is claimed to do just what we think our new piston is doing. To quote from a recent issue of the 'Autocar' .... when the flame has spread through say 90% of the mixture, the remaining 10% may spontaneously ignite from pressure and temperature. Vauxhall pack this 10% into a narrow space which gets bigger as the piston descends, thus the local pressure is reduced and detonation prevented . Conclusions. As soon as we obtain our further supply of pistons, our tests will be continued and direct comparison made with our usual flat top piston. RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C.
