Dear Sirs,
We have received a complaint from Messrs. Hooper & Co. relating to corrosion round the terminals of the Peto & Radford batteries supplied to our cars, and for your information the following is an extract of the letter in question:-
"We have recently had occasion to examine several Exide and Radford Batteries, removed from Rolls-Royce Cars, and we find without exception, there is a very prevalent tendency to corrosion round the terminals on the Peto & Radford batteries, but this defect does not apparently occur on the Exide.
We imagine that the initial cause of the trouble, is that insufficient space is allowed for expansion of the acid, when battery is under charge, but thought you might like us to bring this matter to your notice".
No doubt you will remember this matter was discussed in December 1929, and in our letter reference EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 5/AD. of the second of December 1929 we agreed to the antimonial lead washer being fitted in place of the brass lead coated washer.
As apparently the batteries complained of by Messrs.Hoopers are ones that were supplied prior to your fitting the antimonial lead washer, we suggest
