IMPORTANT Follow Instructions Exactly. See Attached Diagrams Instructions for Mounting RETRAC OIL SPRINGS to Standard Makes of Automobiles Name of car Rolls Royce Model - - - - Year 1919 Front Mountings UPPER FRONT MOUNTINGS These are the T shape brackets with pads apx. 3 1/2" x 2" to be drilled and ears to be drilled and are attached to the upper frame by bolting through holes in under flange of frame. properly placed to give the required distance between upper and lower bearing studs. the bearing stud pointing toward center of car, the short studs to be welded into 9/16" hole drilled in proper position in ear. (Note remarks) LOWER FRONT MOUNTINGS These are the pad brackets with 13/16" hole drilled near center of pad and are attached between spring and axle, the ear pointing down in front of axle the bearing stud pointing toward center of car. When in position, the face of the frame bearing stud should line up with the face of the axle bearing stud. The center line through the upper bearing stud should be ... ? ... in front of the center of the lower bearing stud. The distance between upper and lower bearing studs should be 7"- 7 1/2", car normally loaded but less passengers. Rear Mountings LOWER REAR MOUNTINGS Attach the lower rear mountings first as follows: These are the special brackets which fit over the rear end of spring and are attached by drilling pad after fitting to end of master leaf and bolted through present safety bolt hole. the bearing stud pointing outward toward wheel, the bracket down at rear of axle. UPPER REAR MOUNTINGS These are the hub brackets 2 1/2" between faces and are attached to the upper frame by drilling frame on center line sufficiently to the rear of lower bracket to give 10"-10 1/2" between bearing studs, car normally loaded the bearing stud pointing outward toward wheels. the heavy washer placed over stem on inside of frame. When in position the face of the frame bearing stud should line up with the face of the axle bearing stud. The center line through the upper bearing stud should be ... ? ... to the rear of the center of the lower bearing stud. BE SURE in attaching the above brackets that, wherever possible, the nuts employed are cotter pinned into position. Where this is not practical, use either lock nuts or lock washers to prevent same from coming loose. When the brackets are fitted between the springs and the axle pads, be certain that the spring clips are sufficiently long to accommodate the bracket and still have thread enough for either a lock washer or a lock nut under the clip nut to prevent the spring clips from working loose. [Text in left margin] The pads should be fitted snugly over the end of main leaf of spring, the lugs on sides bearing snugly against side of leaf, the end of spring leaf butting snugly against bracket. Drill pad for this position and bolt through safety bolt hole, using chrome vanadium steel bolt. | ||
