400 To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/WSC.{W. S. Cassel} HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/WSC.{W. S. Cassel}8/VS.{J. Vickers}25.8.38. Re Memo Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}8/R.23.8.38. In reply to the above, we would like to mention that we have a Rear Axle Casing produced in magnesium now going through on the machines. With regard to the Gearbox, as soon as we receive the latest drawings from the D.O. we will take off A/C. castings, and then obtain in magnesium. We are proceeding with the manufacture of the lower half in sheet metal, and note your remarks that this should be in the same gauge as the Oldsmobile. We have just received revised blueprints for the Cast Iron Engine, necessitating alteration to the pattern, which will be put in hand as soon as we get a good casting for the first test bed unit. We understand that it is impossible to fit this unit as now into a chassis, hence the necessity for the alteration; we suggest putting three castings in hand to the latest drawings. We are arranging to fit 3 exhaust valves with inserts and three without, and note your remarks regarding cylinder heads. HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/WSC.{W. S. Cassel} | ||
