re. SPARE WHEEL CARRIERS.

We are still having trouble and complaints in regard to the above.

I came across a new car the other day on which, when tightening up the special bolt, it did not grip the wheel in position on the side wheel carrier.

In checking a few similar cars at the Works I was able to demonstrate to Mr. Davis that we were very near to this condition, the bolts being practically choc-o-bloc when gripping the wheel in position.

This applies to both Phantom II. and 20 HP. cars, side wheel carrier and rear wheel carrier.

I shall be glad if you will go into this matter immediately, as possibly you may feel that a small alteration can be made at once before further cars are delivered. I certainly do not want to perpetuate this fault. We appear at present to have nothing in hand, and suggest that more range of bolt movement is required in order to meet the variations which may occur.

The Coachbuilders are also complaining about the poor finish of the spare wheel carrier fittings, also luggage carrier. They are having considerable difficulty in obtaining a proper painted finish job. I submit that the present finish is very rough and requires smoothing up, also portions of sharp edges removing generally, which I understand from Mr. Davis is instructed, and which I suggest should be made more definite on the drawing.
