WELLWORTHY PISTON RINGS LIMITED CONTINUATION No. 1. We would, if you would care to try them out, like to supply you with a few cell-faced rings which would bed in more quickly without in any way damaging the cylinder bores. Concerning the last paragraph of your letter, we assume that your mention of "Temper of rings" refers to the EN value of the material, this being always above the minimum limit laid down on 4.K.6. specification, which is 15.5 x 10^6. We are continually taking checks of materials for the EN value, and in addition it is a regular thing for our inspection to pass all rings over a piston equivalent to the actual piston diameter for which such a ring is intended. Any changes in gap are noted, so that there is no question of a light inspection or test for contact on the periphery until such time as the ring has passed over the piston. This makes quite sure that rings as they reach a customer will not distort when being put over the piston. We are taking the liberty of forwarding you 72 rings which we have placed in hand made by an alternative process and would like your report on these rings as to whether they bed in quicker, these being made by alternative methods of machining to our standard practice, but not cell-faced, as we have mentioned above. If you would care to try some cell-faced rings we could split this 72 batch and have half of them cell-faced and the other half of normal type finish. Assuring you of our best attention and service at all times, We are, dear Sirs, Yours faithfully, For WELLWORTHY PISTON RINGS LTD., F G Blackith Technical Manager.
