(2) We have also sent you a friction damped spring drive of a novel design which embodies our small dia. torsionally flexible driving shaft in parallel with rigid friction damping. We understand however that you are getting on better with the type originally sent you, which had rubber springs. We should like you to try both of these if possible. BRAKES. The brakes are consistently reported to have front thumps. I believe it is a good long time ago that I said an air pot to make these brakes go on silently would not be a success. It would have to be very much larger in dia. Personally I believe the oil dashpot is the right thing, but this subject has always been a mystery that none of us has been able to solve, and perhaps the quickest thing to do would be to try the oil pot and not worry our heads about theory. PETROL CONSUMPTION. As regards petrol consumption HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} says we are trying to work with a much lower depression than we use on the other engines. I have always endeavoured to keep these things in line, and I think it is a waste of time knowing that the carburation is not very good to attempt any other conditions than those which have proved good on the larger engines. LUCAS PARTS. It will be noticed that in these tests some of the devices are very defective, rather supporting the views I have always had that outside mass productions are not good enough for our high class trade. Fortunately believe they are making better units at C. A.{Mr Adams} V.{VIENNA} However it shews that we ought not to get into their hands any more than we can help because they do not seem to put enough good work into their productions.
