Dear Sirs,

You have of course been advised that the Patent Castrol "XXL" in 1938 has a lower viscosity than the Patent Castrol "XXL" which was marketed by us in 1937. It is reasonable to suppose that you will wish to know whether the new oil will be equally suitable in those gear boxes in which you used Patent Castrol "XXL".

Our opinion is that, as the film rupture strength of the two oils is the same, there will be no need for you to exercise any anxiety, provided of course that an oil of lower viscosity will not tend to leak from the gear boxes. We imagine that a gear box made by the Rolls-Royce Company
