1381 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/IS.1/IK.11.7.39. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} NOTES ON CONFERENCE TO DISCUSS CHASSIS COSTS. HELD MONDAY, JULY 10TH, 1939. Present: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, By, RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/JRD. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/GMc. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LS. The discussion centred mainly round the production of B.V. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said that he had been disturbed to find that contrary to his understanding the first fifty B.V's had become merged in the 300, and as a-consequence the programme for the manufacture of the 50 had been considerably delayed. Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} said that the delay had been due to the constant alteration in design, and also due to the fact that the experimental B.V's had been made with less tooling than any previous new chassis type, meaning that we had to get production tools at a time that is very difficult in this respect. Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} said that no alterations had been introduced for some time without the approval of G.Mc. After a considerable discussion it was agreed that with the exception of the gear box no further alterations for the first 300 B.V's should be put through unless there had been an actual failure. All other alterations should be reserved for the second series. It was reported that the gear box was held up because it had not yet been decided whether or not we should fit an anti-rattle device to the second speed synchro-mesh cone, to prevent rattle whilst getting away in bottom gear. The modification requires a 3/16" hole in the shaft. It was decided to carry out a dynamometer test forthwith on the shaft, and in the meantime Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} is to get information on the seriousness of the rattle. Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} is to get out a delivery date for the 300 sets, and JRD. will revise production programme accordingly. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LS. | ||
