R.R. 235 A (100 T) (S F.{Mr Friese} 846. 6-8-19) C.I.C. 2409 REPORT ON 2.EX FROM FEB. 26th. TO MARCH 4th. Handwritten Reference Numbers: Top Centre: X.3757 Top Right: X.3757 CK{Mr Clark} / X.3743 Thursday - Feb. 26th. Car not run on road today. Ball joints on allshock absorbers and on cross steering tube adjusted - cylinders examined and found to be on the dry side so extra oil valve has been fixed permanently open. Oil pressure is set at 20 lbs.sq.in. and is very light. Mag. distributor cleaned and carbon brush of rotor found to be sticking in guide. Car oiled round thoroughly and prepared for long run tomorrow. X.3434 Friday - Feb. 27th. Today I have been to Avignon to get petrol to deposit on the way to Spain as it is arranged that I take BJ. to Spain on March 4th. Owing to railway strike all petrol stocks have been requisitioned so had to return to Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence and found instructions had been received from CJ. stating that I had to proceed to Paris and bring BJ. to Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence. I have noticed the piston rattle again today on several occasions when driving fast with water temp. over 80°C. Saturday - Feb. 28th. To Hyeres and return then on to Avignon with a load of petrol. About 16 miles out one of the rear tyres (Dunlop groved) blew off the rim when travelling at not more than 20 M.P.H. X.3044 Sunday Feb. 29th. Left Avignon en route for Paris and when about 23 miles out a Dunlop steel studded cover blew off the rim (rear wheel). A new tube was fitted and about fourteen miles further on the same cover blew off again. Spare tubes being unobtainable and having only one left and a spare front wheel shod with a Magnum I decided to put the latter on the rear and carry the tube for any wheel which might require it. After so much trouble and having still over four hundred miles to do before reaching Paris I drove very steadily to Roanne where I stayed the night. NCR / X.3129 / X.2894 / X.1809 Monday - March 1st. This morning the engine refused to start owing to the tungsten points being fitted so badly. After cleaning and adjusting them the engine started immediately so I started off for Paris driving very steadily until I arrived at the Paris Depot about 7-30 P.M. While crossing Paris the speedometer stopped registering and it was found that the driving cable had twisted off. Unable to get another one long enough. Tuesday - March 2nd. At Paris Depot where I had the car washed and oiled round. Fresh oil put in the engine. The T joint on top water pipe was taken off cleaned and resoldered. New tail lamp fitted. One of the rear wheels was slightly dented on the rim (Contd). | ||
