We are anxious to keep our type of carrier plate for two reasons, superior water exclusion and decreased weight. After some discussion, Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} said that we would accept the standard Lockheed scheme if it worked well enough. It was accordingly agreed to try carrier plates of standard Lockheed types to designs suggested by Lockheeds for the first set of Myth pieces and see how they behave with particular reference to water exclusion during washing. Mr. Parnell left prints of their scheme drawings PR.906/7 with us for our inspection, and if we approve these they are to go ahead and let us have the finished parts complete in about one month. We shall require to modify the brake drums to suit. Our suggestion for a stiffened carrier plate PL.836 is to be left in abeyance until the Lockheed pieces have been tried. Two Leading Shoe Brakes for 31 cwt. car. Mr. Parnell was given prints of PD.264 and RG.{Mr Rowledge}1647 to shew the general scenery in the neighbourhood of the front and rear brakes respectively. Mr. Parnell is to prepare drawings for using with the existing drums some 2 leading shoe brakes of standard pattern and similar to those used on "Myth" except for the size. We are to send on prints of the details of carrier plates, water excluders etc., which will help Mr. Parnell in the laying out. Mr. Parnell suggested cast iron carrier plates as getting over the present difficulty in obtaining thick pressings. It should be possible to use the rear water excluder complete, and the front with slight modifications. EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions} Handwritten at bottom: Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} They have our stuff complete except for the back plates. Mr. Parnell suggested mounting the stuff on some standard back plates, differing in the details, & bringing them over himself on Monday DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions} | ||
