20/25 HP. 10,000 Miles
Test Car. 21-G.4.

Replying to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}S/W.11.4.34.

21-G4. has been on test since Easter. At the moment it is impossible for us to give a definite date when this car will go away because it is our intention not to send it away until it is a car which is worth running. It is certain from the experience with 28-EX. and 21-G4. that the only section who can get out a programme of what is to be run on an experimental car is the Experimental Department and in future we intend to see that this is done.

28-EX. never ought to have gone to France with a lot of known faulty parts on it.

On 21-G4. it will be necessary for us to pull off a large number of parts and replace them before the car is fit to go. In the meantime we have promised Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} that it is safe for the Works to go ahead with 50 sets of the new carburetter and controllable dampers, and we are concentrating on these two items to make sure that there will be the minimum amount of trouble on production.

We agree that we have not allowed ourselves sufficient time but that is not an unusual position for us to be in. For the success of the job we know that we are doing much more useful work with 21-G4. at Derby than it would be if it went to France.

As regards the controllable dampers we have done a tremendous lot of work on the bumper and we are now satisfied that there is no risk of a mechanical failure with the increased loading. The point we now have to settle is the range of control and we can do this work infinitely better at Derby.

When 21-G4 goes to France it will go as a car which we are satisfied is satisfactory to be delivered to customers and the 10,000 miles test will be a final proof run.
