Rdex Swddll. 1245 To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Derby. How soon can we let them have a set of bearings as run on 3 BTU a .010 undersized shaft Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Joyce/Lois S/ET.7.6.37. Re: CHASSIS B.8.GA - PARIS TRIALS CAR : Mileage: 41.781 Kms. They ought to regrind crank to get most value from test. Sr has asked me to write to you concerning his car and the new type main bearings you propose sending us and also with regard to the oil consumption which Sr. says is about 300 m.p.g. The car is also smoking. Résumé in condensed form of work carried out to the engine in the past Cylinders, pistons and rings. 20.8.36 - 20.740 Kms. - Carried out an R.20 engine clean. Fitted 12 E.60860 and 6 E.60821 piston rings. 22.9.36 - 22.260 Kms. - Fitted 6 E.61123 "L" shaped piston rings to cure high oil consumption. May 1936. This car was fitted with a large oil pump on the 29th. The cylinder and pistons are the original ones. Main bearings and big ends. 20.8.36 - 20.740 Kms. - Fitted a set of Hall's metal main bearings sent in Case N° BE.643. We also fitted a set of Hall's metal bearings to the big ends. 15.12.36 - 29.014 Kms. - Measured sinkage of main bearings. Fitted a set of RR.56 solid liners and stepped them as necessary. Fitted a rear bearing in RR.56 metal. Drilled an extra and opposite hole in the crankshaft. Modified the intermediate bearings (oil grooves) as per Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}244. Fitted a set of connecting rods with RR.56 metal big ends. 17.1.37 - 29.839 Kms. (N°6 big end seized). Fitted 6 EB.2815 connecting rods with Hall's metal big ends, and RR.56 liners. 1.2.37 - 30.500 Kms. - N°7 RR.56 rear main bearing seized. Fitted a Hall's metal rear main bearing. Crankshaft. When the car had covered 29.014 Kms., we measured the main journals of the crankshaft in conjunction with other work, and they were as follows: | ||
