| SECRET [Handwritten Note] Reiler Swell - we should follow up. 607 [Initial: R] To H.S. Copy to Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Serr. By- Mr. Swab. E {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} /PSH/AHP.1/H.26.6.37. CAMSHAFT WITH VAUXHALL CAMS. WRAITH III. We send you herewith two prints of each of the following details:- RS. {Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} 600 Inlet Cam Form (Vauxhall). RS. {Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} 601 Exhaust Cam Form (Vauxhall). RS. {Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} 608 Camshaft with Vauxhall Cams. for Wraith III. The camshaft RS. {Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} 608 is similar to the standard Wraith shaft HW.918, but provides for the cams RS. {Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} 600 and RS. {Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} 601, which have been taken from the Vauxhall "25" camshaft drawing No. 1032895. A reduction in cam base circle diameter from the Vauxhall dimension of approximately 1.300" was necessary in order to allow the shaft to be assembled in the engine, but there is no alteration in the actual valve lift curve. The valve lift with this camshaft will be approximately .325", and the lift curves are being derived and plotted at once. A preliminary investigation shows that greater spring forces are necessary with these cams, and the design work for heavier springs is being carried out. Timing diagrams are shown on the inlet cam form RS. {Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} 600. The tappet clearances should be .006" for the inlet and .013" for the exhaust valves as on the Vauxhall, but the timing should be set at .030" clearance. E {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} /PSH.
