Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}3/MH.{M. Huckerby}11.3.39.

Purpose of Visit.

As we are considering having our split skirt piston EW.2121 produced by the above firm, it is necessary that they should be fully acquainted with our requirements and we with their method of manufacture.

The essential differences in this respect are as follows:-

(1) Skirt grinding.
(2) Gudgeon pin fit.
(3) Location for machining.
(4) Ageing.
(5) Pressure testing.

Skirt Grinding.

"Aerolite" - Elliptical, by one cam.

R.R. Split Skirt - Circular - from two different centres.

The grinding of the Aerolite is a part of its design, as it is intended by means of the fluted skirt to take up a circular shape at working temperature in the engine.
