V4376. TO C. From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/MJ.31.10.30. Re. TYRES. Replying to C7/C30.10.30. We note your remarks re. the Englebert tyres. We, ourselves, were not very much impressed with the riding qualities of these tyres neither do we think that they were as silent as the intermediate type of Dunlop Silent Tread. However, if there is any type of tyre which you are satisfied is better than what we are giving them as a general compromise, we will definitely ask the Dunlop Rubber Co. to give us a report on its adhesive qualities and it's silence. There is no doubt that they have more elaborate facilities for making accurate tests for skidding etc. than any other company in England, and would be only too glad for us to take advantage of it. We suggest that somebody from Sales, who is au fait with the type of tyre recommended, should make a point of going to Messrs. Dunlops and seeing some of their demonstrations when they have completed their investigation of the tyre. Naturally a full specification of the tyre, size, type of tread, etc., should be given when the request for tests is submitted.
