48 .TRIAL TRUCK LIGHT-UTILITY SET WI TESTS IN THE FIELD LONG VALLEY, ALDERSHOT. The vehicle will be loaded to a total of 4 tons 6 cwts. in the manner before stated. This test has been specially selected as it approximates very closely to the country in which these vehicles will have to work. The ground consists of alternate patches of hard gravelly sand and soft sand. 1. The vehicles will start at the bottom of the hill where the road from Fleet brings into the Long Valley. After the radiator temperature has been taken and will proceed at stated intervals six times from a stop, round the flagpole, round the stanchions, up the test hill and back across the valley... The length of this course is approximately 1.6 miles and must be completed within 45 minutes. 2. They will then proceed direct across the Long Valley to the soft sand under Long Down Hill. This is about 5" to 6" deep on the average. They will be required to do six continuous figure of 8 turns... This is to test the strength of the steering connections and the cooling capacity of the radiator when the chassis is working under full load at low speed. 3. On completion of the figures of 8, the radiator temperature will be taken, and must not exceed 100° C. above that of the atmosphere. | ||
