BENTLEY V & BENTLEY 50 BRAKES.

In view of the satisfactory running of the brakes on 8.B.V. in France we recommend the following materials for the first 50 chassis.

Brakes linings.

In Ferodo BZ and RU. The B.Z to be fitted to the leading shoe and RU to the trailing shoe. This combination of desimilar linings is fitted to reduce the brake squeaks which were experienced during the first 15,000 miles when BZ alone was fitted.

Servo lining.

To be in Ferodo VG.90 material. This was fitted to reduce squeaks and it has a very constant coefficient of friction with variations in temperature and is accordingly not so sensitive to bedding errors.

Servo Spring Plate.

This must be sealed at the edge with Heldite to exclude water.

The poundage across the scissors to operate the servo should not exceed 6 - 10 lbs.

We are awaiting tests on a .012" thick phosphor bronze disc before giving definite information as to the material and dimensions required on this disc.

Pedal ratio.

We recommend that the leverages used should be modified by alteration to two levers.

(1) The rear equalizer cross piece should be lengthened from 1.125 centres to 1.250" centres.
(2) The front idler lever on the engine should be modified to give an increase of pull to the front brakes of 6.625/5.625
