| To Hives from E/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Copy to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. Vo/1L E/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}4/MN.8.8.35. SECRET RE SPECTRECodename for Phantom III WING LAMPS. We are sending to you under separate cover, two sample wing lamps, a streamline and an orthodox lamp made to our LeC's 4584 and 4585 respectively, for your comments. As you will recollect special lamps are called for to obtain the required appearance as the SpectreCodename for Phantom III radiator is very much in advance of the front wheels. The lamps have to sit on the wing forward of the centre line of the front wheels. Stream-line Lamp. LeC 4584. We think this lamp looks quite nice on the car but we shall ask Messrs.Lucas if they will agree to leave off their medallion as it breaks up the lines of the shape of the lamp. Orthodox Lamp. LeC 4585. This is a standard Lucas lamp, slightly smaller than that which you now use on the Phantom, and it has a smoother exterior. The base fixing has been modified to suit the position in which the lamp sits on the wing. Whilst on this model the base is solid casting, eventually this will be a sheet metal pressing. There will be a dual fixing to the wing, and the exposed rivets on the lamp body will be deleted. We would be glad if you would let us have the opinion of Sales as soon as possible on these lamps as it is necessary to place an order for twelve sets of wing lamps as soon as possible. We need the samples in Derby in order to take up the details of construction with Messrs.Lucas. At the meeting in London, when this subject was last discussed, you may remember it was suggested that the stream-line lamp should be used on all cars. We are wondering whether it would be wise to bank on this, and we offer as a suggestion that we order a dozen sets of Contd: | ||
