Contd. -2- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG16.2.20. happened that both portions of the split leaf broke, the car would be let down on that side. We think it is important that we should come to an immediate decision with regard to these split springs because it will save endless trouble and expense if we could carry out the modifications at the works before the chassis's are despatched. X.2631. We are running 49-GB with a clip fitted to every leaf except the smallest one so as to make the springs more rigged laterally. We made sure that the clips were a good fit on the springs. We find that these clips are effective because one can see by the marking on the leaves that there is very little more side movement than we get with the solid bottom leaf. We propose to fit a set of springs on the bumping chassis which has these clips fitted. If these clips will prevent the springs breaking, they will also decrease the flexibility of the spring laterally. If we can prove that the extra clips are satisfactory, then we would recommend that no cars are despatched unless the spring leaves are drilled so that these clips can easily be fitted. We think the possibilities of solid bottom leaves to replace the split ones is impracticable because of the delay it would cause in out-put. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
