(3) Cylinder Head.
As Ex.S.1384, but with combustion space modified to give 6.5:1 C/R.{Sir Henry Royce} We believe that this has been drawn with 3.25 bore, a "Klingerite" gasket thick, and "flush top" pistons.

(4) Induction Pipe.
It was stated at the meeting that accommodation should be provided for a three stud fixing carburetter. We are not going to do this unless it is necessary, and for the moment the four stud fixing should be retained. The reason for this :-

The 36 m/m Duplex Stromberg ( as at present being used on our Straight 8's) uses a " cast-in" 1 1/8 choke.

On the 3.25 bore six cylinder unit we want to use a smaller choke, and we are told by the makers that the only way to do this is to have the 30 m/m Carburetter which has 1 1/32 choke ( cast-in). We do not accept this, and simply remove the throttle body ( 30 m/m) and fit the 36 m/m body, which is interchangeable.

(5) Camshaft.
Camshaft Ex.33974. This should include suitable alteration on the points asked for in Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}2/MH.{M. Huckerby} 23.8.39. These were:-

(1) More adequate forward thrust face is required, or alternatively, reversal of distributor and oil pump drive gear on Camshaft, to give a rear thrust where a good face is already provided.

(2) To stop rattle, it has been found necessary to reduce Camshaft end float to .002".

(6) Exhaust System.
Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Whym. to supply Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} with data to detail Burgess Silencer. Exhaust manifold to suit.

continued.
