-2- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/NRC.{N. R. Chandler}4/MH.{M. Huckerby}20.4.39. CARBURETTERS. Two special type S.U. with starting device electrically operated and thermostatically controlled. COOLING SYSTEM. Circulation by pump, temperature controlled by a thermostat which bye-passes the radiator until normal working temperature is reached. CLUTCH. Single dry plate with centrifugal assistance which permits of reduced pedal pressure and exceptionally smooth starting from rest, while eliminating all possibility of slip at higher engine speeds. GEARBOX. Four forward speeds with easy change mechanism to second, third and fourth speeds. Direct drive on third and over-drive on fourth, thus permitting of maintained high speeds on Continental roads at very moderate engine revs. Ratios - 1st. 10.25 : 1, 2nd. 6.43 : 1, 3rd. 4.3 : 1,(Direct). 4th. 3.64 : 1. PROPELLOR SHAFT. Duplex open type of large diameter, with three grease retaining universal joints. The forward portion of the shaft is carried from the gearbox at its front end, and at its rear end by a ball bearing mounted at the apex of the X-member of the frame through the medium of a rubber sleeve which provides a certain degree of flexibility. REAR AXLE. Hypoid bevel gears with bevel gear differential, torque and brake reaction taken by road springs. (Ratio 4.3 : 1). | ||
