R.R. 235A (500 T) (S.D. 408. 26-4-17.) Bm. 2/156/13. To DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} EY. & EH. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} -7- R7/G181218. Contd. -------------- --------------- (10) CARBURATION. X.2468 X.2458 Experiments should be made to overcome distribution troubles at present being experienced with the use of the heavy fuel now being supplied to the public. The extra induction pipe jacket and smaller radiator area obtained by blocking off part of the matrix, should be tested. X.2243 The Northcliffe chassis fitted with the "Hawk" engine should be fitted with an alternative induction pipe and carburettor system. The carburetters should be two Claudel-Hobson 26 mm. diameter choke, arranged as shewn in sketch, so as to deliver mixtures symmetrically to the induction system. Each carburetter should have its own accelerator pedal, i.e. additional accelerator pedal for left foot when removed from clutch, so that the carburetters can be opened in series. The parts required for this alternative system are intended to be supplied with the car when it is sent to Mr. Royce, so that the 70 H.P. R.R. carburetter can be removed at West WitteringHenry Royce's home town, and the Claudel-Hobson installation fitted in its place [Handwritten text next to a sketch of a carburettor float chamber] FLOATS FORWARD ALSO WITH OF JET FOR HILL SYMMETRICAL CLIMBING. AIR INLETS. X.3490 The float chamber needle seating on the 40-50 HP. chassis should be made similar to the R.R.C.H. pattern. The elbow carrying the petrol feed connection from the tank should be incorporated in the float chamber casting itself. A design on these lines should be submitted to Mr. Royce. Contd. | ||
