COPY From: NORTH & SONS LTD Whippendell Road, WATFORD CHK/DEW.6 9th January 1928 Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd. DERBY Dear Sirs, Magneto No.100081 We beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 6th instant and of the rotor arm from the above magneto. We have again investigated the matter and find that our Drawing Office in setting out the details for the marking of the wheel and of the rotor arm on the E.W.6 magneto have followed the usual practice of taking the top right hand segment of the distributor block as being that for No.1 cylinder, and the engraving both for the wheel and the distributor arm were set out accordingly. The point they had overlooked was that on the Blue Print E.71374 sent to us on the 19th February 1925, you shew the top left hand segment as being No.1, and that this marking has been carried out on all the left hand E.O.6 magnetos. We sent you on the 7th instant a rotor arm similar to those used on the E.O.6 left hand magnetos which will enable you to run Magneto No.100081 on an engine provided the timing is done with reference to the point of the breaking of the primary circuit and to the position of the marking of the rotor arm only. It will be necessary to ignore the marking on the wheel itself, and we would suggest that after you have completed the tests you propose making with this magneto, it will be advisable to return it to us so that a correctly marked wheel may be fitted. We are arranging for the distributor rotor arms and distributor wheels to be engraved in accordance with the details shewn on your Blue Print E.71374. We offer our apologies for the trouble you have been caused and for the fact that our enquiries made before writing you on December 29th did not clear up the position. ENCLOSURE Nº 710 "JUSTSO" | ||
