LONDON.S.W.1.

For the attention of Mr. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Dare Lea.

Dear Sirs,

In reply to your letter of the 2nd. inst. I would like to inform you that your silencer was fitted to one of our Phantom III cars some 3 months ago and has run up to the present time 4700 miles. We of course want to run considerably more mileage than this to obtain a value for reliability and it is our intention to have it on the car for further mileage under varying conditions and also to note any changes externally due to weather variations.

With regard to BHP. figures we intend to obtain these after completing our road mileage.

We did think of doing the BHP. loss first, but decided that we would rather not run the risk of damaging the silencer under test bed conditions and afterwards probably getting a false value for silence on the road.

We hope you will appreciate that tests on any exhaust silencer take rather a long time and we are proceeding as fast as we can commensurate with our other experimental work.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
