CJ. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to LHS.{Lord Herbert Scott} c. to PN.{Mr Northey} X 3791 HsS/LG30.3.21. X.3791 STEERING OF 40/50 CHASSIS. X.20 With reference to Mr. Salamanca's letter of the 18th.inst., we have had several instances of burst front tyres on experimental cars, and have never experienced any difficulty in controlling the car. If the driver has reasonable control of the steering, we do not consider that there is any risk on a straight road. The danger of a front tyre burst is when the tyre comes off the wheel. If a corner was being taken at high speeds and the front tyre burst it might easily happen that the tyre would be forced off the wheel and jam the steering. We suggest that if Mr. Faddon does not feel comfortable with the steering on his 40/50 R.R. car at high speeds, it would most probably be improved by adding friction to the steering.
