+8060 To Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/LG2.11.28. 47060 We recommend that the following note should be sent round as a Depot Sheet. PHANTOM TAPPET ADJUSTMENT. F.2.B. SERIES & ONWARDS. For Phantom engines with aluminium cyl. heads it is essential that special consideration is given to tappet adjustment. The correct tappet adjustment for these engines is .006" clearance with a cold engine. It is essential that the tappets are adjusted with a cold engine. The characteristics of the F.2.B. series engines is that the tappet clearances increase in the first stages of warming up the engine. This is due to the fact that the cyl. and head get hotter much more quickly than the duralumin push rods. When the cyl. head and tappet rods arrive at a mean temperature, the clearances shoudl become normal. The only safe way to adjust the clearances on this engine is to adjust the tappets when the engine is cold. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
