WHEN REPLYING PLEASE REFER TO E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} West, Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited, DERBY. RLN/EH. 4th June.1935. Dear Mr. West, I had occasion one day last week to investigate a complaint of poor lighting from a pair of our P.100's fitted to a Rolls-Royce car belonging to an influential gentleman in Birmingham. I was surprised to find that the bulbs in the lamps were only 36 watt and I naturally thought at first that a mistake had been made. I find however, that our works have instructions to fit these bulbs in all lamps supplied direct to London. I think this is the outcome of a decision made by them at the time when the Minister of Transport was contemplating the issue of Regulations forbidding the use of more powerful bulbs, and Rolls-Royce London anticipated the Regulations in order that their customers would not have the trouble of changing their bulbs. As you know, these Regulations never went through, and as we are supplying 60 watt bulbs in our contract lamps, I was wondering what is the best procedure for raising this matter with London. Yours sincerely, [Signature] | ||
