C O M P L A I N T. Re Chassis No. 68-TW - Alec Rea, Esq. Chassis originally despatched from W. March 1920. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Com/D/CA23/T21.9.20. 1920. 4-Sept. Sales advise W. that customer has written that:- "As regards the running of the car I am satisfied, except as regards the suspension. This is not quite as good as I expected over rough roads. I explained this to your Mr. Henderson a few days ago, and told him that it did not compare for ease of riding with the Lanchester car I had recently; but I suppose this was hardly to be expected, as they are such particularly satisfactory cars in that respect." Sales say they have informed customer there is no reason at all why the car should not be satisfactory as regards springing, as other cars he has had, and they ask to be allowed to go carefully into the matter with a view to satisfying him in this respect. 20-Sept. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} reports to D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} as follows and sends a copy of the memo. to Mr. Evans:- "Referring to the attached complaint C1/H4.9.20 copy of which we attach to Mr. Evans' copy of this memo., we have turned up our records and have gone carefully into the springing instructions received for this car. As a result of this, and on reference to the spring camber card made out at the time the car was finally tested, we are able to confirm that the present springs appear, under ordinary circumstances, to be quite O.K. In view, however of Mr. Rea's complaint something out of the ordinary, and different from our standard of springing, may be required. We therefore suggest that C. gets into communication with the customer and makes arrangements for our Mr. Evans to see the owner to go carefully into the matter of springing. The car is at present fitted with the split leaf type of rear spring, and as we have in any case to change it to the solid type leaf spring, we can quite easily fit either stronger or weaker springs according to Mr. Rea's special requirements. We are putting Mr. Evans in full touch with the facts of the case, and are asking him to see C. and arrange to deal with the matter on these lines. There is no reason why the springing should not be made to suit Mr. Rea's requirements, and if he can be asked to kindly state his wishes, the matter shall receive attention." We will report further developments as soon as we are able. (Sgd.) D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} L./CA. | ||
