Since small pieces of rubber are sometimes nipped off the gland when tightening up, it is advisable that the pipe should be situated always so that a filter is interposed between it and any part of the engine where small orifices or valves exist, and in connection with Vickers type petrol relief valves. Care should be taken to avoid long lenths unless frictional loss in the pipe is unimportant.
