Body work. also under Sprunging A 12th August 1910 E2/012810 RECEIVED Dear C.J., I am glad to say that Holmes are making the necessary alterations to the three bodies, which will bring them about right although they will not be very pretty, but I understand from the price and use for which they are required, this is not important so long as they are comfortable. Upon going into this matter and overlooking some of the other cars, I have noticed that cushions are not at all satisfactorily ventilated. For instance, the back cushion on 1124 is absurdly airtight. The first person sitting down on the rear cushion is shot upwards if the second one happens to sit down quickly. With reference to the "Hare" cushions, (an unfortunate name as it might mean "Pneumatic" or "Horsehair") these seem considerably better than the standard cushion. I do not think there can be any serious patent about this as it seems to be merely a method of using a large number of small springs. They are undoubtedly an improvement and likely to keep their shape well if the springs are good. It should not be forgotten that the leather on these requires thorough ventilating, otherwise the advantage of the springs is not obtainable. [Left Margin Text]: X393 A B [Watermark]: CROXLEY | ||
