Dear Sirs,

For the attention of Mr. Trier.

We are returning to you a Hartford Shock Absorber which has been run on a customer's car for 3,000 miles under normal running conditions. You will see from examination that one of the bushes has worn very badly. We should be very pleased if, after you have examined the shock absorber, you will put it in good repair free of charge and return it to us. We should also be interested to hear from you what you consider is the reason for this excessive wear.

With reference to the experimental bushes you sent us (made by L.W. Tools & Co. Ltd.) we have not run these sufficiently far to say whether they are any improvement. We found that they varied from the standard, not only as regards the inside diameter but as regards the outside diameter and also the length.

We are not anxious to adopt these bushes which have not proved satisfactory over a large number of shock absorbers.

We recommend that as a safe and certain improvement, the diameter and the length of the present bushes should be increased.

The success of the Hartford shock absorber when fitted to a Rolls-Royce car absolutely depends on it working silently.
