This column is for Name of Person addressed. Mr Barrington DATE. 3/7/12 BP40/T3712 RE CLEARANCE OF SPRING SHACKLES. To confirm conversation with you yesterday re above to the effect that I have made a test on a car fitted with 52" springs in which I have had .015" clearance between the front shackle of the rear spring and the pin attached to the frame, and find that there is no sign of any knocking or trouble caused by this extra clearance and I recommend that such be adopted as standard as soon as ever possible, range of clearance of .010" to .020". I rather think that for this pin .025" would be too much. I will take the first opportunity of increasing this clearance to .025" but will let you know further. In the meantime the above report and also the one from the R.D. shows that the knocking is not caused by this pin being slack but to end play which has been my experience. This sheet must be filed with the correspondence to which it refers. E.P. Handwritten text: T4-33 Study ordered Spring | ||
